Plain English, no legal fog: what gets collected when you read this site, why, and what you can do about it.
Create Pixel Art is a reading site. There are no accounts, no logins and no profiles to build, so the amount of information involved is small.
What we collect
We do not ask you to register, and we do not run comment sections or newsletters that require your details. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to send us — for example, if you email us about a correction, we have your email address and whatever you wrote in the message.
Like almost every website, our hosting infrastructure records standard technical information when a page is served: the request, the approximate time, the type of browser and device, and an IP address. This is ordinary server operation and is used to keep the site running and to deal with abuse.
Analytics
We use privacy-conscious web analytics to understand which pages are read and how people arrive at them. That tells us which guides are worth expanding and which are not landing. Analytics data is aggregated — we look at patterns across visits, not at individuals, and we do not attempt to identify you from it.
Where an analytics provider is used, it may set cookies or use similar storage in your browser, and it may process technical details such as your IP address on our behalf. We do not sell this data and we do not use it for advertising profiles.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We use them sparingly:
- A preference cookie that remembers you have dismissed the cookie notice, so it does not reappear on every page.
- Analytics cookies, as described above, which help us count visits and see how pages are reached.
- In some cases, cookies set by an affiliate programme when you follow a link to a tool vendor, so that a resulting purchase is attributed correctly.
Every modern browser lets you view, block and delete cookies from its settings, and most offer a private browsing mode that discards them when you close the window. Blocking cookies from this site will not stop you reading anything here.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to software vendors are affiliate links. When you follow one, the destination site typically records that the visit came from us — usually with a cookie or a URL parameter — so that a purchase can be credited. What happens after you leave this site is governed by that company's own privacy policy, not ours. We have no access to your account with them, your payment details or anything you do on their site beyond knowing, in aggregate, that referrals converted.
Third parties
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. The only third parties involved are the service providers that make the site work — hosting, content delivery, analytics and affiliate networks — and they only receive what they need to perform that function. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Your choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Because we hold so little, this is usually a short conversation. Write to [email protected] and we will deal with it.
You can also opt out of analytics at the browser level using tracker-blocking extensions or your browser's own privacy controls, and you can clear this site's cookies at any time.
Children
This site is aimed at a general audience interested in making pixel art. It is not directed at young children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If the way we handle data changes — a different analytics provider, say — we will update this page to describe what actually happens. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
